  • EARTHQUAKE IN ITALY

In view of the devastating effects of the earthquake which hit L’Aquila in Abruzzo on 6 April 2009, we recommend that all reservations for hotels and accommodation facilities in and around the area affected by the earthquake should be verified and confirmed before travel.

“In this time of great sorrow and pain for the entire country, which has seen Italy united in its rescue efforts in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, it is an obligation to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Abruzzese hoteliers of the area who have manifested a great spirit of solidarity by giving real help to the earthquake victims in offering accommodation to all the families who for now have no possibility to find alternative shelter”. The statement given by the Parliamentary Under -Secretary for Tourism, the Hon. Michela Vittoria Brambilla, and the Councillor for Tourism of the Region Mauro Di Dalmazio continues: “Furthermore, we need to emphasise that in the areas not directly affected by the earthquake, tourism will continue as normal guaranteeing the maximum level of hospitality and service. The fact that many tourists continue to choose the most inspiring places in the Abruzzo to spend their Easter break represents – as the statement concludes – another more important and significant gesture of solidarity towards this Region, which is today involved, with all its resources, in the task of reconstruction".
